About Us
Hagelslag from The Netherlands | Worldwide Shipping
The history of Dutch chocolate sprinkles started over 100 years ago. The owner of a licorice factory was walking in the middle of a hailstorm. This hailstorm inspired him to create hail shaped pieces of licorice.
The sprinkles grew in popularity in Holland. They had an intense licorice flavor and were completely different from the Dutch sprinkles we know nowadays. The sprinkles became very popular in Holland and were soon a treat for breakfast. In the 1930s new flavors were introduced, and the famous chocolate sprinkles were invented.
Nowadays the sprinkles are still an essential part of every Dutch breakfast table. They are also often used as toppings for ice cream, pies, and desserts.
Countless varieties are available: dark chocolate, milk chocolate, fruity flavors, and more. Next to “regular” sprinkles, extra small and extra large sprinkles are available. Chocolate flakes are another delicious variety.
Maybe you want to experience a Dutch tradition and use chocolate sprinkles to top a piece of (Dutch) bread, Maybe you would like to decorate a delicious dessert with it. It does not matter, these sprinkles with their intense flavor and enduring appeal can be used for many occasions.
